Ready for School

I picked up this brochure at a preschool fair. The title is “Is My Child Ready for School?” Even if you plan on homeschooling your child, it is helpful to know what the schools are looking for when your child enters Kindergarten. Click on the link to see the brochure.

Raising Rock Stars Preschool ~ Letter O

~ Melody is 4 years and 1 month old ~
~ Emily is 22 months and 2 weeks old ~

preschool cornerTot School

Below are only some of the things we do for school. I’m not able to capture too many photos when we’re out and about since I only have so many hands. Don’t know how you moms with more kids than arms do it! The main program we’re following is Raising Rock Stars with Carisa at 1+1+1=1. Using that format to teach the letters, I use Erica at Confessions of a Homeschooler‘s Letter of the Week curriculum. Melody also loves workbooks, so we end up doing a lot of that too. You can read more about how MELODY’S ADVENTURES all started.

RAISING ROCK STARS

Craft – I think this was the craft from the previous week??

Key cards and Tracing Os – She was just flying through these…and enjoying them as you can see.

Craft – She wanted to make a pattern with the dotters.

Coloring Page – Woohoo!! I am loving that she is using more colors in her coloring pages.

OTHER FUN STUFF

Kai’s First Birthday Party – It was the girls’ first time whacking a pinata. During bedtime snacktime, Melody decided to sort all the goodies that they got from the party. How cool is she? =p

Great Clips – The girls watching Mommy get her hair cut to donate for the 4th time to Locks of Love!

Sidewalk Chalk – I called out some shapes/numbers and the girls ran to them.

Indoor “Picnic”

Setting the Table

“Family Couch” – Dora’s mommy doesn’t quite sit right on the couch.

Easel Drawing – Notice Melody’s “curvy” Y and she has to add her age to her name as well.

Happy Feet – These are my Happy Feet slippers. Melody has some at my parents’ house. She decided she needed to wear them at home so she took mine. =p This is her “posed” stance. =\

Sweeping – Helping Daddy after he mowed the lawn. Daddy was going inside because they were all done, and she wanted to sweep some more.

SISTERS

“Sleepover” – One morning they took all the pillows and cushions to make a “sleepover”.

MY RAMBLING

I am just trying to catch up on these posts, so I have pretty much forgotten a lot of the details of what went on for the week. The girls are growing up so fast, and keeping me on my toes. I am loving it, but it is also challenging to give them individual attention all the time.

Storytime Craft: Y is for Yawn

The preschool storytime at the library goes through a letter of  the alphabet each week starting in September. The storytime always  begins with a welcome song and singing the ABCs (signing the letters too). All the books go with the theme for the week. There are random  songs in between the books (occasionally there will be a related song),  and it ends with a craft.

Books for this storytime:

I added the part about using the white or yellow crayon to add stars to the picture.

Materials

  • Crayons (make sure to have white and yellow)
  • Scissors
  • Glue or gluestick
  • Black construction paper
  • Nocturnal animal clipart

Instructions

  1. Color the animal clipart.
  2. Cut out the clipart.
  3. Glue the clipart onto the black paper.
  4. Use the white or yellow crayon to add stars to the scene.

The beginning of the week was busy so we’re actually not done for the week, but I will update when we get through everything.🙂

RAISING ROCK STARS

Easy Reader – Not sure what this was about, but Melody wanted to put her days of the week on there.

Key Cards

LETTER OF THE WEEK

Cut and Paste – Even though Spring is here, it is still very cold. The snowman fits in around here just fine. Melody wanted to leave the carrot nose off.

Cutting Practice – Emily did this one, and here is how she cuts – she opens the scissors with both hands, holds the scissors as correctly as she can, make a cut, and then repeat.

Snowman Lacing

OTHER FUN STUFF

Ballet Show – It was pouring rain this day but Melody was just super excited because she invited her grandma, uncle and uncle’s girlfriend, and us of course. We went out for brunch after the dance class party, which we didn’t get photos of.

Mommy’s Birthday – My mom and I share a birthday, and it was the same day as the ballet show. I can’t remember the last time it rained on my birthday, so it was odd that it was pouring. We enjoyed a meal with my family that night at a Chinese restaurant.

Keyboard – She’s not really playing anything, although I’m thinking to start teaching her. Ignore the boxes (we’re getting rid of some stuff), and some of hubby’s guitars and my violin…

SISTERS

Bedtime stories

Cousin’s House – We have Pajama Day at my nephew’s house each week. The girls and my nephew were doing Hidden Pictures from Hi-Five magazines with my mom.

St Patrick’s Day Fundraiser Luncheon – We ate our 3rd St. Patrick’s Day meal at church for a fundraiser. The girls really enjoyed the Irish dancing from one of the youth and a friend. (These are from hubby’s phone.)

Raising Rock Stars Preschool ~ Letter S

The beginning of the week was busy so we’re actually not done for the week, but I will update when we get through everything.🙂

RAISING ROCK STARS

The Board – Melody read the verse by herself before we even got started.

Getting Ready for S – She made the wiggly lines into snakes. :p

Coloring Page – She still colors a lot of things in rainbow colors, but she is also recognizing that some things are certain colors. (Like grass is green (unless you don’t water it then it’s just dried up) and the sky is blue (unless a storm is coming))

LETTER OF THE WEEK

Do a Dot S – Emily loves to use all 5 of the dotters that we have to do this. It helps her to learn her colors.

Do a Dot Snowman – I wish we had the basic color dotters, but my sister bought these for the girls.

Leapfrog S – Emily playing the alphabet song.

OTHER FUN STUFF

Lunch Playdate – Well, I guess this was the end of the playdate because the kids were ready for naps and the moms needed clean up a bit before leaving. We got together with the other moms/kids from my MOPS group, so there were 20 of us running around our discussion leader’s house. Fun.

Writing – This was a hand-me-down (one of many many many) from my cousin’s daughter. The girls usually use this for drawing, but Melody finally figured out that you’re supposed to practice writing the words. The words are in lowercase, but she writes them in uppercase because that’s what she knows. :p

US Map Puzzle – Melody put together this puzzle all by herself. This was my puzzle from when my siblings and I were little. The reverse side is the world map (which needs to be updated) which is trickier because the pieces are in the shape of the states.

Crafts – We finally had no plans on Saturday and went to Lakeshore for the free craft time. It was a special day “All About Animals”. I’ll post more later.

DIY Wooden Block Puzzle – I made these in MOPS last week. They girls are having a lot of fun with them. Sorry for the bad photos. Click on the link to see how I made them. That was fun too.

Warriors vs. Timberwolves – We went to the girls’ first basketball game on Sunday. It was pouring rain when we were going there. 1) Melody disliked the players’ intro because it was dark and loud. 2) Melody liked the dancers the best because she likes dancing.

3) My BIL and sis with Melody 4) Hubby and I with Emily

5) Part of the halftime show 6) The game

7) They lasted pretty long, but got bored around the end of the 3rd quarter. 8 ) We went with some of my siblings and hubby’s bro and gf

SISTERS

Pom Pom Color Sort – Melody was teaching Emily the colors and how to sort the pom poms.

TOT

Baby – She is going to be 2 years old in May!! How did this happen?

Basketball – Souvenir from the basketball game that we attended.
