Lakeshore Craft: Ice Skate Lacer

The girls made these ice skate lacers at Lakeshore on Saturday during their free crafts time. If you have a Lakeshore near you, you should really take advantage of this service. The worker prepares everything, your kids do crafts, and you don’t have to clean up the mess.

MATERIALS

• Cardstock
• Hole punch
• Decorating stuff
• Yarn (tape the end for easy lacing)
• Tape
• Pipe cleaner
• Large popsicle stick

INSTRUCTIONS
Since the materials were already prepared for us, we didn’t have to cut out the ice skate or punch the holes but those would be your first steps.

1. Use white crayon to draw your designs (in our case, the girls wanted their names).
2. Use Do-a-Dot Art dotters to color over the designs so they show up.
3. Add any other decorations onto your ice skate. (Melody wanted to draw pictures, and Emily was surprisingly good at taking the backings off of the foam stickers.)
4. Lace the yarn through the holes. (For Emily, I held the skate, poked the yarn through the hole and she pulled it through.)
5. Twist the pipe cleaners through 2 holes at the bottom. (I suppose you can use something else like more yarn if you don’t have pipe cleaners handy.)
6. Tape a large popsicle stick onto the pipe cleaners. (They had colored tape at Lakeshore, but we finished Emily’s at home so we use transparent tape and taped around it so it stays on.)
